Art of Asana - Forward Bends and Sitting Poses

“It is through the alignment of the body that I discovered the alignment of my mind, self and intelligence” –B.K.S. Iyengar: Light on Life.

In this workshop we will work on standing forward bends, sitting poses and forward extension in sitting poses. Standing forward bends bring extension to the spine and remove fatigue caused by other asanas, they tone the nervous system and are considered “cooling” asanas.

After mastering the Art of Standing, one has to learn the Art of Sitting; Lord Krishna says in the Bhagavad Gita “Hold the body, head and neck erect, immovably and steadily” when He refers to sitting for meditation. Knowing the correct way of sitting and different movements of the knees, the forward extension becomes easier.

Finally, the Sitting Forward Bends combine the actions learnt in the previous group of asanas (standing forward bends and sitting poses), and will be this workshop’s cherry on top of the cake.

You can expect a dynamic and active workshop where you will:

  • Learn the necessary actions and arrows of movement to perform the Forward Bends and Sitting Poses.
  • Look at different bodies performing the same asana and visualize how by applying the correct actions you can bring the body in alignment physically and energetically.

This workshop is for yoga students with at least 6 months of yoga experience. It is also a great opportunity for yoga teachers to deepen their knowledge of the anatomical asana alignment and techniques to adjust the asanas for different body types and conditio
